In an attempt to solidify their position as douches, AT&T has now made a corporate policy that users with smartphones that are not paying for the smartphone package must start paying for one as of September 6th. AT&T reasoning? They want people with smartphones to pay for the possibility that they might use the AT&T data network. Want to buy an unlocked smartphone and use it with a regular, non-smartphone plan? Too bad if AT&T catches you. They will go ahead and start charging you for one.
